Papa In Knee Surgery Again

Poor Papa! I think he is taking all of this like a trooper. After an appointment with the Orthopedic Specialist on Monday he was told he would need to have surgery again. Apparently he either re-injured or the surgery didn't "take/heal" properly. The knee was in the same condition as it was before the first surgery (June 24th).

As far as I understand now it wasn't a torn meniscus that was replaced. Papa had to have ligaments reconnected to a different location. Some how they snapped or got torn so holes were created to reconnect things to the new locations. This is why the surgery only took 90 minutes the first time.

So his second surgery was on the 23rd and it was 2 hours. Not bad considering we thought that this time he might have to have a second knee replacement done.

I believe he is heading back to the same Rehabilitation Center; Hebrew Rehabilitation Center in Roslindale. I don't know when he was moved today. He could have been moved this morning or he could have been moved this evening. I think I will wait until the end of the week to try to call him.

The other great news is that neither one of these surgeries affected his dementia treatment.

The big 3.1. birthday! It was really good! Nathan spoiled me this weekend with supper, homemade ice-cream and cake. Of course for just the two of us we had cake again today.

Nathan got me a new "wonder tool." My other wonder tool had been abused. My new wonder tool is even equipped with a small screwdriver and a rubber grip handle. Pretty bad when the lady likes her tools. That is when you know you have spent a lot of time remodeling a home.

I had my first mammogram today. Okay, I know it may be a little TMI. I got to ask Radiography Technician Susan lots of questions before and after the exam. She was really nice. Didn't mind me asking questions at all. Let me look at my digital x-ray images on the computer with her.

If you are wondering no it doesn't hurt. A little uncomfortable but on a scale from 0-10, (with 10 being really uncomfortable) I would have given it a rating of 1.

I went to the appointment in sweat pants and a t-shirt, no deodorant and no lotions on. I was allowed to keep on my jewelry including my glasses and I was given a gown and temporary locker for the screening. The wonderful nurses assistant, I didn't ask her name, gave me a pink bracelet because it was my birthday.

There was hot water available and tea in the screening waiting room (not the lounge waiting room).

Now I went in there expecting to be "squished" in between two metal plates. Totally not the case. There is a sticky removable foam pad that the radiography technician placed on the bottom or resting shelf. The top shelf, that came down electronically via control of a foot petal, was a "plastic tray." Susan could also adjust the height of the bottom or resting shelf via a secondary foot petal.

You don't have to hold your breath while the x-rays are taken. Just stand still which is pretty easy when you are also kind of directed where to place your shoulder and arms.

I got a lot of love from lots of people today. Text messages, Facebook wall posts and phone calls. Thank You all so much!

Aunt Maria called to also let me know that Papa is doing well and should be headed back to rehab tomorrow. I was so happy to hear that.

June 2010 House Projects

Sorry I am late on getting this up. Nathan and I kept ourselves pretty busy the month of June. He was out of school for about three weeks so we got a lot of silly stuff done. We were hoping some of the bigger projects that we decided to pay someone else to do would have been done by the end of the month as well but they weren't :(

Master Bathroom
Master Bathroom before we started was a bedroom.
Glass company installed shower glass doors. Plumber & Electrician installed fixtures, vanity light and outlets.
Installed towel rack.
Installed toilet paper holder and base board moulding.
Installed small cabinet above toilet. Installed a full length viewing mirror across from toilet.
View of the bathroom from outside.
Moved stuff from the original bathroom into the master bathroom.

Master bathroom 100% complete.

Hallway before
Crown & base moulding finally installed.

Hallway 100% complete

Master Bedroom
Master bedroom before. In this first picture you can just barely make out that behind the bedroom door was the original master bedroom closet. It jutted out into the room and used up much needed space.
Installed the base and crown moulding and trim around the doors.

Master Bedroom 99% complete

Guest Bedroom
The guest bedroom before. In the back right corner of the room, in the first photo, you can see the original closet.
Installed the last of the crown moulding. Took down the old blinds and filled in the holes to prepare for the new blinds. Excuse the mess in this room. This is where stuff gets puts to donate and where we are putting everything for my sisters wedding in October.

This room is 99% complete.

Front Yard
Faux painted the stuccoed fence and installed small solar powered LED lights.

Back Yard
Squared off the cement patio. Bought a fairly new hot tub :)
Started to trim the pine trees in the back yard to prepare to install new back yard fence.

Hubby cleaned out the garage and installed a new garage light. Way better than just the light bulb light that was originally out there.

Family Visit

Mom and dad are here! I am excited! It is nice to have family visit. Mom traveled to see me for my birthday while Nathan and I lived in HI. It was nice of her to come out and keep me busy as that was the time that Nathan was gone on deployment. We haven't had any family travel to see us since then.

Nathan is off through Monday but Tuesday he goes back to school. We will hopefully keep them busy and Nathan and I will actually take some time to do some touristy things. We have kept ourselves pretty confined to house remodeling since we moved here.
