Shopping

I picked up Kalah early this morning. We had breakfast before we headed to the mall. We stopped at Denny's. Made it to the mall about 20 minutes early but there were some stores open, JCPenney, Sears, Old Navy. By the time we were done looking through Sears the rest of the mall opened. Kalah and I had fun making fun of some of the clothes and picking out the cute clothes. It is so amazing how clothes from the 70's are so in now. Some of the skirts that look like carpets or some of the clothes that we know aren't meant for our body types. We stopped to drop some of the bags in the car before we headed out for lunch. After lunch we had enough time to stop off at one more store and then of course to stop and see the cute puppies before we headed out the door. There was an 8 week old Jack Russell Terrier for sale. He was so cute and darker in fur color than Angel. He was $630 which is one of the cheapest prices I have seen! I got home around 4pm and had some time to unpack the bags and then take a bath to get ready for church. I am home now and making supper. Thank you Kalah for a great day out!

Odds and Ends

I always run across a thing or two every week that I try to remember to write down here. The funniest of which was the latest deal from Kia "buy one car, get a second car FREE!".... no I'm not joking. Also on a game I've been playing for a while (SecondLife) I went to a meeting held by a couple real life doctors on Asthma (one junior M.D. another 20+ yrs Pulmonology and Critical Care). I learned a few new things.

from Doc: "there are some reports of [steroid inhalers] causing cataracts over the long term ... the spray getting into the eyes" this is new and still not fully researched, but the lawsuits have begun.

"Steroids taken for years and years...make someone's skin very delicate, too" "the skin gets thin"

I didn't really know steroids hampers your immune system and that over time it can actually damage it. If anyone has questions I can forward them to him. Nice to be able to get a free 2nd opinion.

Jokes/Duck Family Update

A friend sent me these yesterday and I was on the floor laughing. I thought that I would post them here so that you could have a laugh too.

We always hear "the rules" from the female side. Now here are the rules from the male side.

Please note... these are all numbered "1" ON PURPOSE!

1. Learn to work the toilet seat. You're a big girl. If it's up, put it down. We need it up, you need it down. You don't hear us complaining about you leaving it down.

1. Sunday sports. It's like the full moon or the changing of the tides. Let it be.

1. Shopping is NOT a sport. And no, we are never going to think of it that way.

1. Crying is blackmail.

1. Ask for what you want. Let us be clear on this one: Subtle hints do not work! Strong hints do not work! Obvious hints do not work! Just say it!

1. Yes and No are perfectly acceptable answers to almost every question.

1. Come to us with a problem only if you want help solving it. That's what we do. Sympathy is what your girlfriends are for.

1. A headache that lasts for 17 months is a problem. See a doctor.

1. Anything we said 6 months ago is inadmissible in an argument. In fact, all comments become null and void after 7 days.

1. If you won't dress like the Victoria's Secret girls, don't expect us to act like soap opera guys.

1. If you think you're fat, you probably are. Don't ask us.

1. If something we said can be interpreted two ways and one of the ways makes you sad or angry, we meant the other one.

1. You can either ask us to do something or tell us how you want it done. Not both. If you already know best how to do it, just do it yourself.

1. Whenever possible, please say whatever you have to say during commercials.

1. Christopher Columbus did not need directions and neither do we.

1. ALL men see in only 16 colors, like Windows default settings. Peach, for example, is a fruit, not a color. Pumpkin is also a fruit. We have no idea what mauve is.

1. If it itches, it will be scratched. We do that.

1. If we ask what is wrong and you say "nothing," we will act like nothing's wrong. We know you are lying, but it is just not worth the hassle.

1. If you ask a question you don't want an answer to, expect an answer you don't want to hear.

1. When we have to go somewhere, absolutely anything you wear is fine...Really.

1. Don't ask us what we're thinking about unless you are prepared to discuss such topics as baseball, the shotgun formation, or monster trucks.

1. You have enough clothes.

1. You have too many shoes.

1. I am in shape. Round is a shape.

1. Thank you for reading this. Yes, I know, I have to sleep on the couch tonight; but did you know men really don't mind that? It's like camping.

Here are some updated pictures of our wonderful duck family.

Funny Politics

I'm sure everyone has seen this by now... but just in case: This is hilarious but not for the kids.

Back up

I had some technical difficulties with upgrading movabletype (the weblog software I use). Hopefully things are back up for a while. Rikki will do some back posting.

Big 25!

It is my birthday! YUCK the big 25! That is 5 years from 30 and half way to 50 which is half way to death! Kind of depressing. I got up this morning and felt like I was getting old. I can feel the wrinkles and see the thinning hair. Let's not forget about the glasses/contacts so the eyes have been getting old for a while now. I won't even begin to talk about this body, definitely not in shape. I worked today and came home to presents and the dog. I got clothes, jewelry, scrapbooking materials, money and the ok from hubby to go shopping :) Now if that doesn't make a girl happy I don't know what will! So I am already planning a shopping trip this weekend. I called Kalah to see if she would like to go with me. Nathan asked not to be dragged along and shopping is always fun when you can hang out with the girls!
My Brothers and Sisters called before supper to sing to me! That was scary. You guys need some singing lessons! But it was sweet of them to call. Things are hectic at the house.
Thank you all for the cards and gifts and sharing my birthday with me even though we are miles apart :)

Early Birthday Present

Nathan took me out for dinner tonight. I saw a commercial for Friendly's today and was ecstatic. I had been craving a Reese's Pieces Sunday for a while now. We didn't think that Friendly's was a Southern thing! It was completely packed and we waited a couple of minutes for a table. The restaurant was not that big. At least it didn't seem like it was a big dining area. We went later in the evening so we are glad that we only had to wait a short time. We stuffed ourselves and had that Sunday after dinner. The menu has changed in the last three years. That is how long it has been since we last ate at Friendly's. Then again maybe the menu was just bigger because we are actually in a city and not in a small town in Vermont. It took about 2 hours to eat and leave which isn't bad. This was an early birthday present because we both know Nathan will be studying on Monday night for a flight on Tuesday morning. Thank you hun :)

Brother's Knee Update

Mom called me to let me know that David got a diagnoses for his knee. He has what is called Osgood Disease. He will not need any surgery for this. This will be something that he will grow out of.

2nd Anniversary!

Our Second Anniversary today! WOW it has already been two years. It is amazing how time flies. It was a nice, quiet, anniversary at home. I got home from work and cleaned a little and started to get the table ready for dinner. I pulled out the wedding glasses and the wedding candle and set the places. Nathan got home just as I finished that. I sat down for a little bit and relaxed. I then started on dinner. I used the leftover turkey from the night before to make turkey dumplings. This is one of our favorite meals and I haven't made it in a while. After dinner I went and frosted the cupcakes while Nathan took care of the dishes. I made chocolate cupcakes with a cream cheese filling. Once I got the cupcakes frosted we exchanged gifts. Nathan got his 100% cotton blanket. Nathan bought me a new Emeril pan, pizza cutter and the 2004 Annual Edition Swarovski Collectors piece. NO I am not spoiled! Crystal isn't till the third of 25th anniversary! Geesh! We also received lots of cards and anniversary wishes. Thank you to all of those that sent us anniversary wishes!

Here are some pictures that I took of our duck family. They were born in the hollow tree across from the patio of our apartment.

Loss of Power/America's Birthday Celebration

Right about when I got up to start dinner we lost power. I didn’t understand that because it wasn’t raining and I hadn’t seen any lightening. Then 5 minutes later a small thunderstorm passed through the area. These thunderstorms were nothing like the thunderstorms that passed through the area in June. Those thunderstorms were HUGE. Nathan jumped on the phone with JEA to try to figure out what was going on. He spent 20 minutes on hold with them and then decided to hang up because we had gotten word, from another neighbor who didn’t have power, that JEA has a switch board that lets them know where power has been knocked out. At 4:30pm we decided to go out to dinner because we didn’t know when we were going to have power. When we got home at 6pm power was back.
The big fireworks display was scheduled to start at 9:30pm on Jacksonville Beach and was expected to last 15 minutes. We left at 8:45pm to make sure that we had plenty of time for traffic and for finding a spot to park. It was truly crazy at the Beach! There were thousands of people out to watch the fireworks. It was beautiful and lots of fun. We hadn’t been to the beach since we moved here so it was nice to have an excuse to head to the beach.

Work Brought Home/Spiderman 2/Norwich Students

I brought work home with me this weekend. I knew that I would be off on Monday and I have to turn in my monthly report on Thursday. Since the office is closed for the three day weekend I know that there will be other things to catch up on. I was glad that I brought home some work because Nathan has kept himself pretty busy with studying for classes. It was either bring work home or bake all weekend and I don’t think either one of us would have really appreciated my baking. I can save that for our anniversary.
I got home from work and had lunch and then we headed out to see Spiderman 2. It was awesome! I actually enjoyed it better than Spiderman. It was probably because of the bigger romance plot in this one and because the graphics were just too cool. If you haven’t seen Spiderman 2 yet shame on you!
On our way home from the movie we saw a Norwich grad! Yes it was an engineering grad but it was someone that both Nathan and I have had classes with. I couldn’t be sure at first that it was who I thought it was. When Nathan pulled over to get the mail I tried to walk over to see him but had gone upstairs. I called mom and asked if she knew where he lived and she said she wasn’t sure. So I took Angel out for a walk and sure enough it was him. He has been living here for a while. That is so wrong because we have been living here since the end of April and we hadn’t seen him before. He lives about three buildings away from us. Anyway he is doing well and my parents got into trouble because they are suppose to know everything and apparently they don’t. Hopefully he will stop by to visit.
