Carnival Cruise Planning

I was able to put in for 9 days of leave feb 21-29. Rikki called up Carnival and got us a good deal for a 7-day central america cruise on the Elation. Stopping at Belize (2nd largest reef in the world), Cozumel, and Progresso (longest pier in the world, 5 miles). So we planned to drive up to Galveston the night before (about 275 miles). Turns out Feb 21st is the last day of Mardi Gras. Everything was booked. Finally we got lucky with a Holiday Inn. Someone cancelled. So we took it for 139$. Expensive. But they offer free shuttle and parking for a week saving us at least 70$.

We have been doing so much on the phone this month that we have used 386 of our 400 minutes. We've been saving calls for the weekends/evenings now. Over 400 minutes costs 40 cents a minute. We did that once. Learned our lesson I hope.

Military Competency

I drove out to Ingleside to take the military competency test for my FAA equivalent private pilots license. I will be getting my multi-engine land and hopefully single-engine land rating. Will find out monday when I finish up the paperwork. The test was 50 question out of a 140 question bank. Cost 140$.

Hello All! Hubby thought that this would be a better way to post about our life in the Navy. So we will try it and see what happens. This weblog stuff is new to me! Most of what I post will be about our adventures as a military family.

My Orders Are In

Finally got my orders today. From here, Corpus Christi TX, we will be moving to Jacksonville FL by April 28th. Then I will be off to Brunswick May 10th for 12 days to attend SERE school (Survival, Evasion, Rescue, and Escape). Not looking forward to that. The best part is after my training on the P-3 Orion we will be moving to Oahu, Hawaii for my first tour.

Still trying to figure out how to add thumbnails to my posts. What a pain.

After getting my passport photo taken yesterday I was told I do not need to get a new passport. I hate wasting time and money. Even if it is not mine.

Finished up the paperwork for my top secret clearance. Will be interesting to see who they contact about my past.

Events After Winging

Saturday the 24th we tour the USS Lexington. It is interesting to see the older ships. We tour the engine room, the mess deck, hangar deck, flight deck and much more. In the afternoon we take a break for lunch. After lunch we head to the Texas State Aquarium. We saw many exhibits and spent a total of 2 hours walking around to see all the exhibits. When we get home in the evening we make homemade pizza for dinner.
Sunday the 25th we bring my mom to the airport in the early morning. Nathan and I go back to bed when we get home. I get up with enough time to take a shower and get ready for church. While I am at chruch Nathan and his parents head to the beach on base. When I get back we go to the O'Club for Sunday morning breakfast. It is the warmest it has been all week. So we head to the Padre Island Beach. We head home and relax. In the evening we go out for dinner in town.
Monday the 26th we take Chip and Donna to the airport early in the morning. It was a great week and hard to say goodbye to our parents.

December 23rd Nathan finishes his last and final flight. Our parents prepare to come down for Nathan's winging. In the mean time Nathan has a month so he has SDO, Squadron Duty Officer. The parents get their flights finalized and send us their itinerary. Nathan's parents will be here from January 21st - 26th and my mom is here from January 22nd - 25th.
Finally the big week is here. Wednesday the 21st Nathan's parents arrive in the afternoon and we have supper here at the house. In the morning we take Chip and Donna for a walk around the base. In the afternoon we go pick up mom and on the way back home we stop off at the mall for Nathan to pick out his gift. Then we stop to pick up the cake. That evening we eat here at the house.
The morning of the 23rd we eat and I take the ladies to go grocery shopping. When we get back we head to a meeting with the XO. This was a meeting to explain what will be going on with the students and for the parents and family members to ask questions. After the meeting we head to the hangar. We get a chance to sit in the plane and check out the instruments. We head upstairs to watch the planes take off and come in for a landing. We then head over to The Wing Headquarters to sit in the simulator and learn to fly the plane. Everyone got a chance to fly. We all agreed that we wouldn't be able to concentrate on all the instruments and fly at the same time. All of us crashed at least once.
The afternoon of the 23rd we head home to relax a little before we get ready for thh big ceremony. At 3:20pm we head to the ballroom to get seats and Nathan explains what will be happening. I receive a spousal award for being there and helping Nathan. Then I get to pin Nathan's wings on and Chip, Donna and Pat accompany me in the process. The class gets there picture taken and the ladies order pictures. Nathan heads for some Hor'Douvers since he had to pay for it. At 5:30pm we head to the dining room for dinner at the O'Club. After dinner we head home and have cake and open gifts.

The Beginning

I have decided to create my own weblog. Actually it is a weblog for the wife and I. She has put alot of work into her website and I find a journal type weblog is more effective than one massive html file. So I have installed a webserver and am testing out movabletype as a weblog. We will see if this becomes a habit or just another web project I grow bored with and abandon in a week or two. I will also make back posts to important events.

It Gives You Wings

Finally after 18 months of flight school I have earned my wings of gold. It is still hard to believe. Especially considering all the problems I had. Glad to be done with it and I am enjoying my time off before reporting to Jacksonville.
